Scoliosis update.

Its always sad seeing the X-rays of your child pop up and even as un trained orthopedic specialist you can see its not quite right. This time they had her stand on a thin block with her left foot to even out her hips. Her legs aren't quite the same length, they were hoping that that would help straighten her spine which unfortunately It did not.

The right hand side is her x-rays from May of last year and the left is from the other day. The good news is it didn't get worse, the bad news is it didn't get any better. But its good that it is staying steady. And She has grown almost 3 inches since they last saw her so its not stunting her growth by any means!

This side view shows that she also has kyphosis witch means her back is rounded. It's the same as it was 9 months ago so not to alarming but we need to remind her to sit straight up with her shoulders back to prevent it from getting worse and needing to wear a brace. The doc also suggested she got to physical therapy. Enslie was not a fan of that! She said we could try some stuff at home a remind her to have good posture but if it gets worse she will need a brace and physical therapy to prevent further damage or stunt her growth.

These appointments are always hard on both of us and daddy. Because of covid only one parent is allowed in the hospital with a child. Daddy always sits in the parking lot while we do them so he is close and can hear right away how they go. So after daddy finished work for the day we went to one of the kids favorite places Fat Cats and used our get out pass to go bowling and have dinner. Doing this reminds me that this is not the end of the world and she can function like a normal child.

Its kind of hard to see but on one of my first bowls I broke my nail pretty far down! I just put a band-aid on and finished bowling when I came home I put super glue on it and cut the nail super short so it can grow out a bit. And I can get into my phone with that finger print!
I'm so proud of Enslie for how she has taken the whole scoliosis thing she has been so brave about all the extra hospital visits and x-rays. As of right now its not causing her any pain or discomfort so we are just keeping an eye on it. We go back in 6 months to get another x-ray and discuss our next steps.
