Our biggest remodel yet!

When we bought our home almost exactly 10 years ago we knew the kitchen was not how we would want it. My mother in law tried to convince us to take out a fix it loan on our mortgage and do the repairs as a young married couple. We knew we couldn't afford another payment as were barely able to afford the mortgage as it was. We both agreed it would be better for us to just slowly fix up the house as we could and to save the kitchen for last as it would be be the biggest project and also most expensive. Well with the stimulus check for covid-19 and some extra money we got from Travis's dads passing we finally had enough money to do the kitchen!
On the 17th of June My mom and sister in law Ashley came and helped pack up the kitchen  and make a make shift one in the basement to use while we were with out one.

Heres some before pictures....
My least favorite part of the kitchen, my stove i hated not having any counter space next to the stove and that it was walled in on both sides!!
The next day the 18th after Korbyn was feeling better from his dentist app. and Travis got home from work we started the demo!! My sister cam to help us out!

I have never been so excited to demo something in my whole life! The cabinets weren't like the usual cabinets you see today, they were made of 2x4s ply wood and 4 inch nails!!! We never saw one screw thru the whole demo process.

The kids all loved being able to take hammer to the walls! And as you can see there was no insulation in the walls just like the rest of the house!!

Even though the cabinets were just nailed together they were sturdy little buggers and took lots of strength to get out! The counter top took both me and my sister hitting it from under neath with sledge hammers and all our strength to get it to budge!!

The counter was sitting on top of some upside down crown molding!! i thought it was quite smart my self!!

We thought this writing on the wall was funny! DROWERS.

Getting close!!

Korbyn finally came to enough to take a wack at the wall!!

He was in HEAVEN!!

Our kitchen garbage pile!!

Korbyn helped out by breaking the dry wall into smaller peaces he was having the time of his life until one flung up and hit him in the face!

One thing that was SUPER annoying was they dropped the ceiling we were hoping that they didn't literally drop the ceiling and that there was something between the roof and the drop downs but there wasn't they were filled with insulation and nailed to the roof beams!! They were a nightmare to get out!
Demo done starting insulation!

My dad rented a uhual to take some of his stuff to the dump and offered to pick up our kitchen demo stuff as well.  My bother in law Jared, Dad , Brother Connor and nephew Jaydan came and helped load everything on the trailer to take to the dump.

Travis brother Matt came and helped cut insulation and dry wall and Mark came and helped cut a hole in our wall and build a brace to hold the weight.

All ready for new dry wall!!

Mark also built a wall in the door way!

So much more open!!

Lue decided he needed to supervise from on high one day.

The floor under the cabinets was was a bit lower then the rest of the floor so we put self leveling stuff on it and some dripped down into the basement.

A Korbyn print and kitty print in the self leveling stuff!!

All ready for flooring we decide to go with new matching flooring through out the whole upstairs minus the bedrooms. My brother Connor came and helped move the furniture out of the room.

Looks so much bigger!

Before.

The  new flooring!! Both places told us that we could put the flooring under the cabinets but when the guy got here to install he said because its a "floating floor" we actually couldn't put it under the cabinets but he went ahead and installed the floor in  the front room and hall way any way and scheduled a day for him to come back and finish the rest once the cabinets were in.

Cabinet day!!

All the cabinets were installed except for the pantry and the side panel for the fridge those were on back order...

It was driving me nuts not having curtains up in the kitchen so my mom and i went shopping for new ones. We both agreed that with the new open concept it made more sense to make the kitchen curtains match the front room colors this is what we settled on.

My new stove!

Naughty kitties!

Paint time!!

2 things here. We taped the old curtains in the window for some privacy while my mom hemmed the new ones to fit. And Travis built this bench in the window!!

New curtains. we also found a curtain rod that was made for bay windows they bend in the corners... no more cup hooks!

With some extra fabric she made these pillow covers for the couches in the front room.

New table and cute boy!!

And some stools for the front room.

Finally the day before we left for St. George we got our counter tops!!

An that meant that after almost exactly month i finally had a sink!!

New sink and finally a dish washer and disposal!

Pantry!

And the rest of flooring installed the day after we got back from St. George.

The front room with new flooring and shelves that were on the wall that we took out.

I'm loving the new open concept and the counter space that i now have! We had family over on the 21st to show off the ALMOST finished product and had have spaghetti for dinner before heading over to the church to watch Travis be ordained to a high priest and as the second counselor in our new Bishopric! He was sustained while we were in St. George so we had to wait till we got back to set him apart. It worked out perfect with the new kitchen being functional to have family over to show it off then have their support in his new calling. I'm Still in shock of it but i know he will do great things and that our family will be blessed for his service.
