Scoliosis update.

Its always sad seeing the X-rays of your child pop up and even as un trained orthopedic specialist you can see its not quite right. This time they had her stand on a thin block with her left foot to even out her hips. Her legs aren't quite the same length, they were hoping that that would help straighten her spine which unfortunately It did not.

The right hand side is her x-rays from May of last year and the left is from the other day. The good news is it didn't get worse, the bad news is it didn't get any better. But its good that it is staying steady. And She has grown almost 3 inches since they last saw her so its not stunting her growth by any means!

This side view shows that she also has kyphosis witch means her back is rounded. It's the same as it was 9 months ago so not to alarming but we need to remind her to sit straight up with her shoulders back to prevent it from getting worse and needing to wear a brace. The doc also suggested she got to physical therapy. Enslie was not a fan of that! She said we could try some stuff at home a remind her to have good posture but if it gets worse she will need a brace and physical therapy to prevent further damage or stunt her growth.

These appointments are always hard on both of us and daddy. Because of covid only one parent is allowed in the hospital with a child. Daddy always sits in the parking lot while we do them so he is close and can hear right away how they go. So after daddy finished work for the day we went to one of the kids favorite places Fat Cats and used our get out pass to go bowling and have dinner. Doing this reminds me that this is not the end of the world and she can function like a normal child.

Its kind of hard to see but on one of my first bowls I broke my nail pretty far down! I just put a band-aid on and finished bowling when I came home I put super glue on it and cut the nail super short so it can grow out a bit. And I can get into my phone with that finger print!
I'm so proud of Enslie for how she has taken the whole scoliosis thing she has been so brave about all the extra hospital visits and x-rays. As of right now its not causing her any pain or discomfort so we are just keeping an eye on it. We go back in 6 months to get another x-ray and discuss our next steps.

Valentines 2021

Travis and I went on our valentines date the Friday before valentines to a Jazz game with Connor and Carly. It was fun but kinda sad to see the arena so empty because of Covid.
We put together valentines for family. Because of covid they didn't let the kids hand them out at school this year but the kids were happy to fill them out for neighbors and family instead.
Korbyn fell asleep while waiting for sugar cookies to bake...
Sprinkle lipstick!?
The kids each decorated a few then Travis and I finished them off. Have I said how much I love actually having counter space!?
For dinner we had steaks, homemade mashed potatoes, and corn it was yummy!
And surprised the kids with chocolate hearts for dessert.
I'm sure you noticed the HUGE band-aid on
Enslies face this is what it was for...
For church on Sunday I did the girls hair valentines- ish.
Enslie was supposed to have hearts in her hair as well but decided at the last min it would ruin her curls. After church on Sunday we went to my moms house and had yummy roast and handed out a few valentines. A pretty low key but a fun valentines!

Enslies 7 year check up.

Enslies check up went well. She was 51.5 in tall (just below the 95%) and 55lbs 8oz (75%) ( Korbyn is gonna weigh more then her soon! He weighs 2.2 lbs less) with a bmi of 14.71.We talked about her appointment with the spine specialist she had in May and she was happy to see that her curve improved so much in such a short time. She has another check up on the 16th with the specialist to fallow up and see how she is doing. The doc still noticed a significant difference though in her back so we will see. Other then that everything went well. We did show the doc a mark on her leg that has gotten progressively darker and bigger as she has grown and found out that its a birth mark not so common in kids that are Caucasian but not unheard of and that its nothing to worry about. She got her eyes checked and passed with flying colors and was given a clean bill of health!

Korbyns 5 year well check.

On Feb. 1st the younger 2 kids had their well checks. I scheduled them back in Nov. before going to school in person was an option. I purposely scheduled them at 2:20 because that would be perfect for finishing school at 1:30 and getting to the pediatrician in time. But when they started in person the girls now go till 2:30 and Korbyn till 2:50 so I had to check them out early. I felt bad that I couldn't pick Erilyn up from her first day of in person school in almost a year but, she was excited to go home with my friend and play for a little bit.

Korbyns well check went well! He is 47.5 in tall ( over the 100%) he's exactly 2 inches taller then his sisters both were at 5. He weighs 53lbs 6oz ( 95%) that is a whopping 12.2 lbs more then Erilyn weighed and 11 lbs more then Enslie! He is just a big boy and has a good bmi of 16.63. We talked a little about school we didn't have much to go on because the preschoolers only went 2 days the week before for an hour and a half. But so far he is doing well and liking school. She says to just keep communication with the teacher open and honest and to continue to watch for sign of an attention disorder. She agrees having him in school in person is a good thing and will hopefully help him calm down. We had no other concerns about him though.

I snapped these 2 pictures of him he walked in the room and got right up on the table and insisted he go first!

In person school?!

The last time the kids were in person for school was March 13th of 2020! The pandemic made the governor cancel school and in a weekend the kids switched to online school that started with an earthquake! They finished out their school year online and we hoped and prayed that they would be able to start the next school year in person. As the summer went on we realized that it probably wouldn't happen. Online school was STRUGGLE in the fall and I was scared that it would be the same in the spring. We looked into local Private, charter and other district schools that were going in person it was already to late they were all either full, not accepting enrollment from other districts or insanely expensive! We were at a loss! We prayed and talked to the kids about what they wanted to do. Even though they wanted to be in person they also wanted to stay with their friends. And for the first time since March we felt good about online, I went ahead registered all of them at our neighborhood school. As things got closer and we found out who the kids teachers were and how things were gonna look we were actually excited for school to start! It was still very hard but it was MUCH better then in the fall. I however still worried about my kids social, emotional, and academic well being. All 3 kids are social butterflies and hands on learners. So being stuck at home pretty much 24/7 and staring at a computer was hard for them. In Dec. our school board FINALLY voted for the kids to return to in person and we were BEYOND EXCITED! We counted down the days and got continuously excited! They staggered the starting dates Jan.25th the pre-k, kinder, and 1st graders started, on Feb. 1st the 2nd and 3rd and the next week the 4th and 5th will start.  So the younger 2 kids started on Jan. 25th and Erilyn started on Feb.1st. We had to take first and last day of school pictures...

On Erilyns last day of online school we celebrated by destroying the computer that was broken back in Dec. it was really fun to let out all the frustration with online school and and see what was inside the computer.

Korbyn refused to put on shoes or a jacket but got cold and didn't want to miss out so he sat in  door like this for a bit.

FINALLY the day came for the last kid to start in person school!

Heres some side by sides of the kids it crazy how fast they grew in 5 months!
